Item Factors Influencing Attitude of Teacher Librarians Toward Information Technology in Kaduna State(Ahmadu Bello University Library Complex, A.B.U. Zaria. Nigeria, 2015) Gwari, Williams Habiba; Esew, Micheal; Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; Jimada, AishaThe study aimed at examining the factors that influence the attitude of teacher librarians toward information technology in Kaduna State Secondary Schools. Survey research method was adopted. The study population comprises all the five hundred and four (504) schools. Out of this population two hundred and sixty- four (264) was used as sample size for the study. Questionnaire was the instruments used for data collection. The data collected were presented and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study found that teacher librarians have positive attitude toward information technology as shown from the respondents who opined that information technology can enhance student learning. The study also found that the possible constraints which tend to have unanimous consensus among the respondents were inadequate trainings on the job, lack of access to technology, poor infrastructure/ social facilities and the epileptic power supply which adversely limit use of the technologies in secondary schools. The inferential analysis showed that the constraints to information technology usage in the secondary schools are positively correlated with the attitude of the teacher librarians towards the information technology use for teaching and learning in the schools. The study concluded that inadequacy of information technology resources, lack of confidence, anxiety, inadequate training, and lack of access to technology, poor infrastructure/ social facilities and epileptic power supply were some of the constraints that significantly influence the teacher librarians’ attitude towards information technology usage in the schools.Item The Role of Nigerian Library Association in Continuous Development of Librarians in Nigeria(Kenya Library and Information Science Consortium (KLISC), 2022-05-25) Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; Jimada, Aisha; Gwari, Williams HabibaThis paper reviews The Role of NLA in the Continuous Development of Librarians in Nigeria with specific focus on librarian and information profession. NLA has been in the forefront of the development of library profession in Nigeria. The objectives of NLA Includes; To unite persons interested in Libraries, Librarianship and Information services; To safeguard and promote the professional interests of librarians; To promote the establishment and development of libraries and information centre; The paper highlighted the factors that have promoted discussions of continuous professional development for librarianship which includes; the vast growth of new knowledge; introduction of new technology in libraries and an increasing highly educated populace. The paper also explained the thirteen special interest groups of the NLA currently in existence such as; Academics and Research Libraries (ARL) Association of Government Libraries (AGOL); Association of News Media Librarians of Nigeria (ANLON) to mention but a few. The paper explains the professional development as a lifelong learning and is indispensable for professional growth and instrumental for sustaining one’s competence. The library can also become more productive with new skills and knowledge acquired through professional development programmes. The paper further highlighted the various professional development programs put in place by librarians such as seminars, workshops, conferences, mentorship, courses, and distance learning programs with interactive capabilities. The paper discusses the importance of continuous development programs which includes to update knowledge and skills in existing and new areas of practice, keep professional qualifications up-to-date, raise one’s profile through certifications and networking, making oneself more marketable to future employers and obtain new improved skills-making challenging tasks easier. The paper highlighted the problems associated with attending professional development program which includes; lack of interest, unacceptance of submitted papers and lack of awareness.Item The Role of the Model of Information Behavior as the link between Information Seeking and Communication(Centre for Democracy Research and Development (CEDRED), Nairobi, Kenya, 2021) Goshie, Rhoda; Amata, Sadiya Bello; Gwari, Williams HabibaSearching for information, retrieving it, ad using it lie at the heart of library studies and librarianship. Libraries function by and for the human act of information seeking. The where, why and how of information seeking continues as the topic of debate and discussion on both the theoretical and practical level of a variety of social science disciplines. Like any other complex concept, information seeking means different things in different contexts. In the simplest terms, information seeking involves the search, retrieval, recognition, and application of meaningful content. This paper therefore seeks to discuss the roles of four models of information behavior and the link between information seeking and communication. The model includes Ellis model which refers to his behavioral model as ‘’the relation between these characteristics or components, Johnson model refers to the users’ insight of their trustworthiness and authority, and the accurateness and comprehensibility of the information, Ingwerson and Javelin model refer to the different contexts of the information seeker, the author, the selector etc. and Gorman model which relates to information seeking by physicians in primary care. The paper gave the link between information behavior and communication. The paper concluded by listing the challenges faced when seeking information with relation to communication which includes among others lack of awareness of available resources and information seeking behavior models and nature of task at hand and communication of the task domain knowledge, the paper also gave some recommendations based on the challenges.
