Item An Overview of Users Information Seeking Behaviour on Online Resources(International Journal of Organization of Scientific Research Community of Researcher, 2014-02) Esew, Micheal; Makarfi, Aisha; Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; JImada, AishaThis paper discuses online information seeking behavior of students for sustainable education among students of higher learning institutions. Online information seeking behavior is a relatively new phenomenon. However, it is the active process of obtaining data from the Web. Libraries and Universities are continuously adapting and seeking effective ways to respond to the fundamental and interconnected missions of research, teaching and community service, and that is why some have embraced the use of the Internet in service delivery. On the other hand, this study is more concerned with maximizing usage of this resource by students in fulfilling their primary aim of research and reaching out to these resources on the Internet using the requisite navigational skills. The paper says the Internet offers widespread access to electronic resources and also has the advantages of interactivity, and information tailoring. It also agrees that access is inequitable and use is hindered by navigational challenges due to numerous factors e.g. disorganization, technical language and lack of permanence. Meager information evaluation skills add to students' vulnerability. The paper highlights some information seeking models to assist students in their search for information on the Internet. Also it highlights the role of the library in the information seeking process of students. The paper concludes that though Information and communication technologies are being put in place for use by students, they must possess the requisite skill to use them appropriately.Item Continuous Professional Development for Information Professionals Through The Nigerian Library Association(School of Science and Technology Education (SSTE), Federal University of Technology Minna, Niger State. Professional development is a lifelong learning and is indispensable for professional growth and instrumental for sustaining one’s competence. The library can also become more productive with new skills and knowledge acquired through professional development programs. The various professional development programs put in place by librarians include seminars, peer coaching, workshops, conferences, mentorship, courses, symposium real-time webcasts, and distance learning programs with interactive capabilities. The paper discusses the importance of professional development programs which includes updating knowledge and skills in existing and new areas of practice, keeping professional qualifications up-to-date, raising one’s profile through certifications and networking, making oneself more marketable to future employers, and obtaining new improved skills-making challenges tasks easier. The paper highlighted the problems associated with attending professional development which include; lack of interest, un- acceptance of submitted papers and lack of awareness.Item CUSTOMERS' INTENSION TO CHANGE MOBILE COMMUNICATION NETWORKS REGARDING QUALITY OF INFORMATION SERVICES PROVISION IN ZARIA METROPOLIS(I-manager's mobile Applications and Technologies, 2019-01) Hassan, Hadizatu; Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; JImada, Aisha; Oyewumi, Roseline; Amata, SadiyaThe study was undertaken to determine customers' intension to change mobile communication networks regarding quality of information services provision in Zaria metropolis. The study raised three research questions and answers were sought to them, among which are the types of information services provided by mobile communication network to customers in Zaria metropolis, customers satisfaction level, and their intension to change network providers regarding information service quality. Survey research method was adopted for the study and data was collected from the sample of 1,269 out of the total population study of 1534. The data were analyzed descriptively using frequency tables, percentage, mean, and mode. The study revealed that customers in Zaria metropolis are provided with a wide range of information services. It was also revealed that customers are partially satisfied with the overall services of call, SMS, Internet, and SIM card service in the entire networks. It is recommended that attention should be directed toward services with lower satisfaction by setting a target using a set of benchmark of ACSI and N.C.C standard of communication services, to serve as a guide for mobile network industries and telecommunication industries to raise the satisfaction level so as to maintain the market share, maintain and generate their customersItem Digitization of Library Resources: Challenges and Implication(Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Kaduna State Chapter, 2011-03-23) Goshie, Rhoda Wusa; JImada, AishaThis paper examines the concept of digitization, its implications, challenges and the digitization software. These challenges include; finance, bandwidth and copyright, which have implications for the library. Libraries and librarians must consider and comprehend numerous aspects of services that have emerged since the advent of information and communication technology (ICT). Librarians of this era are required to use digital tools to provide electronic service. Librarians should possess a diversity of internet skills. Amidst the skills is online skills and technology, which is a useful tool for identifying job titles, tasks, and talents (including technology knowledge).The paper highlighted the 21st century skills for archives and preservation in libraries and for librarians such as management systems, content curation, taxonomy creation, records preservation and management, competitive intelligence tracking, digital asset management, skills in scanning and filing digital formats, automated archival collections, management systems, encoded archival description (EAD), XML schemas and USMARC. The paper gave challenges of acquiring the skills such as inadequate training, non-challant attitude of librarians towards the utilization of modern technologies and lack of internet connectivity. Entrepreneurship is a veritable tool for the achievement of inclusive growth and consequently sustainable development. In order to reduce unemployment and create jobs opportunity for Sustainable National Economic Development, Federal Government introduced some programmes such as NPower., Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative (YEDI), Start-up Nigeria 2019, Trader Money, African Youth Empowerment of Nigeria (AYEN) e.t.c. The paper examines the role of Information and Communication Technology in job creation, sustainable national economic development and wealth creation. The paper concluded and recommended that entrepreneurship development leads to economic development, job creativity, economic sustainability, individual self reliance, improved standard of living better awareness and practice. For a proper and sustainable entrepreneurship development Federal Government and indeed other tiers of government in Nigeria should provide the enabling environment for the activities of entrepreneurs like provision of infrastructures, enacting and formulating of laws and policies that will aid entrepreneurship development in the country.
