Item Development of Library System Automation Software: A Study of Federal University of Technology, Minna Library(Lapai Journal of Management Science, Lapai, 2016) Oyedum, G.U; Abduldayan, F.J; Amos, V.The paper examined the provision of automated software for Library services in Nigerian Universities, using Federal University of Technology, Minna Library as a case study. The system design methodology was used in the study. The general objective of this study is to explore the potentials of providing effective and efficient library services of record-keeping of books and users; and giving easy access to these records to users when needed, using a desktop Java application at the University Library. This software is used to register students and staff, new books that arrive the circulation unit, lend out books to users and-make returning of the books easy. With the software, the library staff can view user record, edit the record, and calculate fine of defaulters automatically. The software can also send e-mail to various users/members who default in returning borrowed Library books. The software also generates report for the Chief Administrator to view activities carried out in various units of the Library. This software was designed and developed with Java Programming Language. The software will enhance Library services and boost professional standing of the librarian as well. Based on this study, it is recommended that provision of digital library services in Federal University of Technology Minna as well as other tertiary institutions of learning should be implemented in line with current global digital trend.Item Information Seeking Behaviour of Undergraduate Students of Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria(Journal of Arts and Education, Lapai, 2015) Oyedum, G.U; Chukwu, P; Imavah, S; Abduldayan, F.J; Tauheed, H.This paper highlights the results of the study of information seeking behaviour of undergraduate students of F.U.T. Minna, Nigeria. The study population was 900 and the survey research method was used for the study. The main instrument used for gathering data was questionnaire. Descriptive statistics of frequency and percentage tabulation were used in analyzing the data. Results showed that most of the respondents 500 (55.6%) consult current information on recent developments in their field and preferred browsing the Internet when seeking information. The study equally revealed that the purpose of seeking information is mainly to prepare for their examinations; and Internet services, textbooks and, periodicals were mostly used when searching for information. Majority of the respondents indicated lack of current textbooks and journals as the main problem they face when searching for information in the university library. Recommendations were made based on the findings of the study.Item Undergraduate Students’ Use of E-Resources in University Libraries in Niger State(Benue Journal of Library, Management and Information Science (BJLMIS), Makurdi, 2015) Oyedum, G.U; Chukwu, P.; Abduldayan, F.J.; Abedoh, G.O.Effective use of e-resources in university libraries is necessary for the academic development of students. This paper, therefore, assessed the relative effect of the available e-resources on undergraduate students' use of university libraries in Niger State. The study also ascertained the e-resources that made the greatest contribution to students' use of the libraries. A survey research design was used for the study, and the study population was 130 undergraduate students from Federal University of Technology, Minna, and Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai. The main instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire. The two libraries, as the study revealed, mainly subscribe to Science Direct for accessibility of e-resources. The study revealed that e-resources such as e-journals, bibliographic databases, e-books, e-databases, e-newspapers, and e-magazines, among others, were available in the university libraries studied. The study also revealed that, of all the available e-resources considered together, e-journals and bibliographic databases made the greatest contributions, which are significant to undergraduate students' use of the university libraries. To enhance the level of use of e-resources and the entire libraries by undergraduate students, the majority of the students indicated the need for the provision of stable network services, followed by an alternative power supply system and the provision of a regulatory body to govern the use of e-resources in the libraries.
