    Some New Results on a Free Boundary Value Problem Related to Auto Ignition of Combustible Fluid in Insulation Materials

    Auto ignition of combustible fluids in insulation materials is one of the major problems facing the processing industries and many developing nations because it leads to serious environmental problem. This paper presents an analytical solutions to a free boundary value problem related to auto ignition of combustible fluids in insulation materials. The aim is to ascertain whether such a system is safe or if it will undergo ignition for a particular set of conditions. The conditions for this existence of unique solution of the model is established by actual solution method. The properties of solutions is examined. The analytical solution is obtained via polynomial approximation method, which show the influence of the parameters such as the Lewis numbers and Nusselt number are presented graphically and discussed.

    Stability Analysis of Rotavirus Model with Co-infection and Control Measures

    A mathematical model of the spread of rotavirus diarrhea based on a continuous time ordinary differential equation modeled two viral strains of influenza is presented. The existing influenza models is extended to include the case of co-infection when a single individual is infected with both strains of rotavirus and to explore the effects of maternal antibodies, vaccination and seasonality. The model exhibits two equilibria, disease-free equilibrium (DFE) and the endemic equilibrium (EE). Equilibrium analysis is conducted in the case with constant controls for both epidemic and endemic dynamics. By the use of Lyapunov function, it is shown that if the effective reproduction number, R0<1, the DFE is globally asymptotically stable and in such a case, the EE is unstable. Moreover, if R0 >1, the endemic equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable.

    Derivation of the Reproduction Numbers for Cholera Model

    It is expected of the epidemiologists to predict whether a disease will spread in a community or not and at the same time, forecast the degree of severity of the disease if it spreads in the community. By that, a cholera model is formulated and the procedure for obtaining the effective reproduction number and the basic reproduction number of the model is presented following the Next Generational MAtrix approach. The two reproduction numbers (the effective reproduction number and the basic reproduction number) are successfully derived. While the effective reproduction number can be used to predict the effectiveness of intervention strategies in inhibiting the spread of cholera disease, the basic reproduction number can be used to forecast the severity of cholera spread in a community where the intervention strategies are not on ground.

    A Mathematical Model Analysis of Meningitis with Treatment and Vaccination in Fractional Derivatives

    In this paper, we develop a new mathematical model based on the Atangana Baleanu Caputo (ABC) derivative to investigate meningitis dynamics. We explain why fractional calculus is useful for modeling real-world problems. The model contains all of the possible interactions that cause disease to spread in the population. We start with classical differential equations and extended them into fractional-order using ABC. Both local and global asymptotic stability conditions for meningitis-free and endemic equilibria are determined. It is shown that the model undergoes backward bifurcation, where the locally stable disease-free equilibrium coexists with an endemic equilibrium. We also find conditions under which the model’s disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable. The approach of fractional order calculus is quite new for such a biological phenomenon. The effects of vaccination and treatment on transmission dynamics of meningitis are examined. These findings are based on various fractional parameter values and serve as a control parameter for identifying important disease-control techniques. Finally, the acquired results are graphically displayed to support our findings.

    Modeling the impact of control strategies on malaria and COVID-19 coinfection: insights and implications for integrated public health interventions

    This work discusses the challenge posed by the simultaneous occurrence of malaria and COVID-19 coinfection on global health systems. We propose a novel fractional order mathematical model malaria and COVID-19 coinfection. To assess the impact of control strategies on both diseases, we consider two control strategies which are, personal protection against mosquito bites ($$u_{1}(t)$$) and preventive measures for COVID-19 ($$u_{2}(t)$$). Numerical simulations demonstrate that consistent application of these measures leads to significant reductions in disease transmission. Using insecticide-treated nets and repellents during day and night effectively reduces malaria transmission, while implementing facial masks and hand hygiene controls COVID-19 spread. The most substantial impact is observed when both sets of protection measures are simultaneously adopted, highlighting the importance of integrated strategies. The study provides valuable insights into malaria and COVID-19 coinfection dynamics and emphasizes the impact of the control measures. of individual behavior and consistent adoption of personal protection measures to control both diseases. It underscores the need for integrated public health interventions to combat the dual burden of malaria and COVID-19, contributing to the development of targeted and efficient control measures.

    Effects of Exposure to Noise on Mental Performance and Emotional Well-being of Students in a School in Kaduna, Nigeria

    The study investigated exposure to noise, mental performance and emotional wellbeing of students. Two simultaneous field experiments were performed each day for five days. At each experiment, 30 students performed mathematics and English language task in a quiet 38dBA classroom named, ExposureI(ExpI). Simultaneously, another 30 students performed the same mathematics and English language task in a noisy 75dBA classroom, named ExposureII (ExpII). After the tasks were performed, the students were asked to to rate their perceptions of annoyance and task dificulty with respect to the noise levels in the two expermental classrooms. Independent sample t-test and Welch’s test were used to analyse the data. Results from the data analysis showed that, in comparison to ExpI(38dBA),the performance of mental task related to mathematics was signficantly affected in ExpII (75dBA).There was no signfcant effect found in the mental performnce related to English language task between ExpI(38dBA) and ExpII(75dBA). Furthermore, the results from this study show that the students were signficantly annoyed in classroom with a noise level of 75dBA. Lastly, the results from this study suggests that mental tasks can be much difficult in noisy classrooms.The findings from this study highlight the critical need for architects and policy makers to prioritize acoustic considerations in school design and renovation.

    Awareness and use of Information Retrieval Tools by students in College of Education Minna Library Minna, Niger State.

    The study assessed the awareness and use of information retrieval tools by students in College of Education Minna, Niger State. The study was guided by five (5) research objectives only. Survey research design method was adopted for the study. The total population for the study was seven thousand nine hundred and eighty-nine (7 989) registered students of College or Education Minna. The sample size of the study was three hundred and sixty-Seven (367) drawn from the population using simple random Sampling. The sample size was determined using the Krejcie and Morgan (1970),. Questionnaire and observation checklist were used for data collection. Out of three hundred and sixty-seven (367) Copies of questionnaire administered, two hundred and ninety-six (296) copies were filled, returned and used for the analysis. Descriptive statistical tool involving frequency counts and percentages were used to analyse the data. The findings revealed that the availability of information retrieval tools such as: Library card catalogue, OPAC. Internet search engines, online databases, bibliographies and library shelve list, while abstract and indexes were not available. The study revealed further that the level of awareness and use of the information retrieval tools by the students was very low. The study recommended among others that the management of College of Education, Minna should create more awareness programmes on those available information retrieval tools in the library for students and regular students' orientation should be carried out on how to use the information retrieval tools, to effectively access or locate relevant information resources that will meet the information needs of the students. oreover., the management should provide alternative means of power supply for effective and efficient use of information retrieval tools among library users to support their research activities.

    Assessing the role of Librarians in Combating Health Information During Pandemics in Minna Metropolis.

    The adverse, effects of misinformation on societal progress, particularly in the realm of health, are well-known. Librarians, as guardians of information, have vital role in disseminating accurate information to the public. This research paper explores the potential of the field of librarianship in countering health misinformation. The study examines existing literature on the societal role of librarians in combating misinformation. Additionally, interviews were conducted with all librarians from tertiary institutions in Minna metropolis to investigate their roles in disseminating factual information during the Covid-19 outbreak. The research explores the strategies employed by librarians to combat misinformation, the challenges they faced in this endeavour, and assesses the impact of these strategies on mitigating Covid-19 misinformation. The study delves into both the misinformation encountered by the community and the persisting beliefs in misinformation. Furthermore, it investigates the channels through which communities receive health information. The paper outlines effective initiatives within the Library and Information Systems (LIS) profession, emphasising recommendations for librarians to enhance their role in the digital age and contribute successfully to the field of public health. Seven librarians from all tertiary in the Minna metropolis were interviewed. Additionally, One Hundred (100) residents from ten communities were randomly selected to fill out questionnaires to ascertain the impact tertiary libraries have on misinformation in the communities. Only librarians from health institutions attempted to educate the communities, with little impact felt.

    Utilization of Nigerian Communications Satellite (NigComSat -1R) Services for Internet Access among Agencies of Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria.

    The importance of Internet access to nation-building and the development of businesses cannot he over-emphasized. This makes its availability and accessibility a major concern to nations. Communications satellites exist to provide the best alternative for people living in both urban - and rural areas. The study focused on the Utilisation of Nigerian Communications Satellite (NigComSat- 1R) Services for Internet Access among Agencies of Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a structured and closed-ended questionnaire. This study has a population of five hundred and nine (509) members of staff that comprises the staff of the two (2) agencies selected for the study. A purposive sampling technique was used to censor 22 members of staff attached to Network Operation Centres (NOC) of both agencies based on their technical knowledge about the different Internet platforms available and Suitable to adopt for their respective agencies. Total enumeration sampling techniques were used because the 22 staff sampled is very few and less than 200. The data collected were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis of frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation. The result shows that NigComSat-I R has three major broadband (C, Ku, and Ka-band)for providing Internet access with high potentials to increase Internet penetration in Nigeria. However, it was discovered that the satellite whose inbuilt capacity for Internet penetration is 39% has very little contribution to the current 33.2% Internet penetration in Nigeria. The study findings revealed that the challenges were lack of adequate patronage due to risk involved in depending on one satellite that lacks backup satellite for redundancy, lack of suitable platforms for deployment of the satellite services for easy accessibility by all, and lack of adequate legislation/regulation that will enforce its patronage. The study concludes that the satellite has been seriously underutilized for over nine (9) years of its existence, and it was recommended that the Federal government of Nigeria should, as a matter of urgency, launch at least two more communications satellites to eliminate the fear of high risk involved in depending on a single satellite-like NigComSat-1R and put in place, proper legislation/regulatory policy that will guide and enforce its usage.
